CALGARY After four months of campaigning over their health-care reform effort, Saskatchewan Health Minister Eric Hoskins has revealed his party was able to get off the ground Wednesday.

The Conservative government said that while the Liberals will still offer a government plan in 2016 that includes health-care reform, it wasn’t on the agenda when a federal election was called.

Hoskins’ announcement on Wednesday would have been a surprise to many, particularly because he was part of a federal election strategy launched in 2008.

This has led many Canadians to say the government is not in need of change, particularly because a Liberal federal government would have been too easy, Hoskins said in Calgary.

Liberal defence minister Guy Bardot, however, said he will continue to call for changes in leadership and said there hasn’t been enough evidence for a leadership race.

We’ve made a bold decision and we don’t want it to become something that ends up as a national government, it’s going to become something that ends up in a federal government.

Premier Christy Clark, who was forced to resign after she questioned his political ability, said the Liberal government should have held a leadership contest, the Calgary Herald reported.

The Premier has said she would be open to a leadership race if the government wanted to keep it a competitive one. Clark and the other contenders who remain on the main slate were all Conservative, Clark said.

Her opponent, former minister of economic development John Horgan, has said he thinks H.S. should not be eligible to be prime minister.

Clark has previously suggested the Liberals did not need to change their leadership plan, but Hoskins says the party had ample opportunity not to.

He said the Liberals also were very successful in rebranded Calgary, a city she said had a large number of ethnic minority residents, and they would have fared better had the NDP played an even stronger role.
