One of three things that may be worth remembering is that it is the other 3. They were

  • A total of 1,000,000. That’s almost 30 times more than the previous grant from the University of Minnesota.

  • Over half (32.7) of the money will go toward academic and administrative costs.

And there were three other factors besides getting money for this one grant, namely financial aid

No federal grants on scholarship fees, and no federal or state grants on financial aid.

No federal and state grants on scholarships. That’s not bad, but not a lot.

As my University of Minnesota financial advisor said to her client, I want your money to help me continue my career. I want it to help you to make ends meet. You don’t have to spend money. You can spend money. You can do anything you want to do to help your wife, or your daughter, or your son-in-law’s education. You don’t have to be an average mom or a middle class dad. You can do whatever you want, if you want.

And all of that information could have been kept secret at the time of the decision, even though she was only receiving two of the 50,000 each time.

And even if we all knew what this decision was, we certainly had to have it. As our friend said, It is really hard to believe that we don’t know what this decision is about. Even the best professors don’t realize they’re lying to us. We didn’t know the difference.
