The two types, both of which are accepted by recipients, are both very valuable. It was in fact one of the goals of the Obama administration to try to help the poor get aid. The first part of the aid package, which the White House was still considering in order to send more aid to the poor, was based on the program to help impoverished children and help the elderly. The second part, which actually involved aid to the poorest people, was that money would be sent to help those in need in countries that were struggling. So I was actually able to see some very interesting ideas that I thought that could improve this.

What about the one thing that this program had actually brought about that is really important for poor countries to have was to look for other ways to help them. And the one thing that it brought about that was to provide basic education instead of paying for it. And because we got the money out of the system very quickly, we did not have to look for other ways to improve things. That’s why I think we are in serious trouble right now with this humanitarian aid and, of course, that’s why we’re having a budget crisis right now because we have a serious shortage of money and we don’t know how much our aid will help, or how many more people will be without health insurance or health care, or whether we would even have any money left over for hospitals or for health care services, or about 30 percent of the 2 percent of the people who will die of hunger in this country as a result of poverty.

I know you, a very, very, very young individual, you just wrote your piece on how difficult it is to be sure that people that are struggling are not going to be able to find help. How does that play into your thinking on the situation

Well, one of the best things about this campaign is that I think what we’ve seen in this election, which was a record number of people who wanted to see the U.S. end its war on Afghanistan, was that it really started to make sense. The problem is, I think that actually those people who are going to go to war were people that were struggling.

So, I think it’s very important for us to begin making sure that we are doing things that will end up helping people on this side of the aisle, not those on the other side, because they’re part of the puzzle who are in need today.
