Trump, who was forced to declare his intention to join ISIS, seemed to support military intervention. Just say no, and when they’re finished, you know, we’re going to start winning these wars, he said. I mean, we’re going to be winning these wars. It’s good. America is getting stronger and stronger. We’re getting better fast. It’s getting our energy going. And when you’re a country that is in these conflicts and we lose people, well that, you know, it’s bad for our country and it’s bad for us.

A number of pundits have also expressed concern that Trump’s stance could lead to ISIS committing new attacks. David Brooks, a political scientist and researcher at Harvard and an expert on international terrorism, said that Trump’s comments clearly don’t reflect well on the administration and may be indicative of an unstable, chaotic administration, as the United States does not like ISIS or anyone that views Islam or is affiliated with terrorism more favorably. Brooks added that Trump would appear to back away from an assault on ISIS just as he did when he publicly attacked the group in July.
